Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is Becoming the Treatment of Choice for Everyone
PRP Treatment in Wichita
Advanced Wellness & Rehab is excited to provide this FDA-approved treatment for chronic pain.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is concentrated from the patient’s blood, which contains healing factors called growth factors and stem cell markers. These cells are vital for tissue regeneration and repair. Platelets have been scientifically proven to be a reservoir of these vital healing components. With advanced techniques we are able to concentrate these vital regenerative healing cells in a simple outpatient setting.
PRP doesn’t just decrease inflammation. It can repair, renew and regenerate injured cartilage and connective tissue and increase the growth of new and healthy connective tissue and cartilage. It’s from the patient’s own blood so there’s little to no risk when conducted by a trained professional, and no risk for an allergic or immune reaction. Side effects or complications with PRP are extremely rare.
Other benefits of PRP treatment include:
- Less side-effects when compared to steroid injections or surgery
- Long-term outcome
- Minimal to no downtime
- Natural and organic; from your own body
- Speeds up and promotes healing
- Minimally invasive
What Happens During Treatment?
PRP consist of drawing a small amount of blood from the patient and placing it in a specialized centrifuge, to separate the blood sample into a PRP layer and a red blood cells layer. The PRP layer is then injected into the patient’s affected area. PRP signals for stem cells and regenerative cells to repair and rebuild the damaged tissue. This reduces pain, promotes strength and improves overall function.
The entire treatment can last up to 30 minutes. However, the majority of that time will be used for processing by the physician.
The healing process takes place over a 4-6 week period. Although mild pain and swelling may occur at the injection site immediately following the procedure, most patients are able to return to usual activities with no downtime. After the treatment, patients can apply ice and keep it elevated as needed. However, movement and massages promote circulation in the area and assist with healing, so it’s important to keep it moving.
Long-Term Results with PRP Treatment
Patients can expect to notice significant improvement in symptoms over the course of healing time. Other treatments, such as corticosteroid injections, may provide temporary relief and stop inflammation, but PRP injections stimulate healing of the injury over a shorter time period with less side effects, eliminating the need for surgery or prolonged use of medications.
Patients usually report a gradual improvement in symptoms and return of function. In order to reach optimal results, many patients may require two to three treatments, and may experience a dramatic return of function and relief within 2-3 months of treatment.
